Longchamp, a French luxury brand, fulfills this promise beautifully which is why it has been offered by Agapanthus since 2007, our very first year in business.
Longchamp was founded in 1948 by John Cassegrain as a manufacturer of luxury leather-clad pipes. What began as a small smoke shop known for its expertise and excellent craftsmanship, soon expanded to a major luxury brand which today includes travel accessories, handbags, luggage, shoes, and ready-to-wear. Today Monsieur Cassegrain’s daughter Sophie Delafontaine maintains this family heritage in her role as Creative Director, developing her vision of luxury for the contemporary consumer.
The emblematic horse logo is a symbol of the company’s inception, named after a famous horse race track in Paris called Longchamp or "long field.” Just next door was the old mill that Monsieur Cassegrain (French for miller) used to pass in front of every day, and the track a short trot away. Hence the name of this now legendary brand. Naturally the iconic race horse symbols adorning each piece speak to our hearts here in Gainesville and Ocala, one of the major horse capitals of the world.
Longchamp reinvents French elegance every season, when we carefully choose from the collections pieces that are functional, chic, and speak to the desires and traditions of our clientele.
Over the years Longchamp has grown and evolved not only with fashion, but in its advancement of manufacturing methods and materials used that are more respectful to the environment.
In 2021, Longchamp broke new ground with a new recycled version of its iconic Le Pliage Original design. The recycled polyamide that makes up the canvas for the Le Pliage Green comes from diverse sources, including: fishing nets, rugs, carpets and industrial waste, offering a second and more noble life to the materials used (GRS 4.0 Certification). This is only part of their commitment to making products in a better, more accountable way.
